Bio

Max Calton Swartout is a music educator of students in grades K-5 at Kent City Schools in Kent, Ohio. He graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor of music in music education. While at OU, Swartout studied voice with Debra Rentz and Kelly Burns. He was a member of the Ohio University University Singers under the direction of Bradley Naylor from August 2018 until December 2021 when his residential coursework ended. He completed his professional internship at Meigs County Middle School with Metra Peterson. In the Spring of 2022, Swartout was a member of the Ohio University Choral Union as a singer and student conductor under the direction of Dr. Dominique Petite. 

Swartout has performed in local venues in the Kent and Athens communities. In the spring of 2019, Swartout was the 2nd Armored Man in the production of Mozart's Magic Flute under the direction of Andrew Ryker.

In high school, Swartout studied under the direction of  Corey Fowler, in choir; Dr. John Roebke in band; and  Sarah Kaplan, in theater and musical theater. Past music teachers also include the following:  Rene Illa, Donna Oberlin, Kent Larmee, and Peter Jarjisian. 

Swartout is currently pursuing a master of arts from Kent State University in cultural foundations of education.
